OUGD504 - studio brief 03 summer project photos fishing shop A - Z body copy

A

It is effective as you can still read as bait – tech and it still looks like an ‘A’. The fish works well at representing fishing and having the circle at the top all fishermen will know that means it’s a bait company. The image is very modern which goes with the modern typeface, which also goes with the name ‘TECH’ overall it a clear logo that works for what its for.
It’s very easy to read and clear. The type is clear and legible the spacing between each letter works well and you can clearly see that’s its two words. The san serif typeface keeps it clear also and keeps it from looking modern.
This is a successful letter ‘A’ and also a successful logo, its very clear and work well with the target market. Which is fishing and fishing bait. You can see straight away it’s a fishing company. If they didn’t have the fish as the letter A it could be harder to understand what its is for.
It communicates very well straight away you know what it is for and who’s it aimed at. The type is clear and easy to read. This is a very successful logo that works well in the fishing industry.

B

This is an effective letter ‘B’ and also a logo. The type and logo has been made to represent the shape of the produced and also the shape of a fish. I think most people will think it looks like a fish and would be for fishing. It’s easy to read and clear to see what it says. The typeface bold and the bright bold colour red make it even more easily to read. I’ve with the typeface shaped its still clear to see what it says.
I feel this is a really good logo and letter ‘B’ as it represents the produced really well as it’s the same shape. And you can clearly see that’s it’s a produced for fishing. It communicates well the fishing market. The shape it the best part of it and communicates well. However I feel the red could be change for a different but the red is also good because it make the produced standout more from other ones, as most fishing companies don’t use the colour red.

C

The two ‘cc’ are effective as they contrasting from the ‘MOORE’ part, the MOORE stands out more however the use of the lighter typeface on the CC works well and should that its two word not one.
It’s easy to read however I feel the ‘CC’ is too close together. The MOORE part is more clearer. It could be improved by not having the ‘CC’ too close together as they don’t look like C’S and more look like O’s. It doesn’t communicate the target audience well it hard to see what the produced is for and also I feel its hard to read with the close letters.

D
The letter ‘D’ works really well, you can clearly see the letter and it also shows that is a modern company, which Dawia is. Their logo is the name broken up in to parts like parts to a reel. If you go fishing it would be easier to understand. But if you don’t it would be hard to understand what it was for. The D is easy to see but this could be because I know what the company is, but maybe to people who don’t what it is it may be hard to see it. However it’s clear and easy to see what letter it is. It works really well and is unique, it get across that it is a modern company. And it always is moving forward, as the shapes are pointing forward. It communicate well it get across that’s it’s a modern company and products. And it’s clear to see the letter D.

E
The ‘E’ and the name ‘CELL’ are very strong and bold it’s clear to see it and read it. White type on a black background always stands out well. The little change they have made to the letter is very simple but works really well with the name CELL as in cells in biology. Works really well a small change but works well with the name. Having the logo above the name makes it clear that it’s for fishing, however is you didn’t have that it might be harder to know what it was for. Its very clear the sans serif typeface is legible and clear. Its modern typeface goes with the science side of the name. The E is still really easy to see the change doesn’t make it look like something else or another letter. it works well with the name, the modern look and typeface makes is very clear a legible, which is good so everyone should be able to read it. The small change just adds more to the name and makes it that little bit different. The design bold and strong, however if they didn’t have the logo above it maybe hard to understand that its for fishing.

F
The ‘F’ and logo go really well together, the typeface flows and looks hand rendered. The hand rendered is effective by show that the sunglasses are more high range and better quality. It’s very clear to read even though it’s a script font, however not sure how it would look if it was even smaller. It may get harder to read and see. The script font gets across its high quality and that they specialise in the sunglasses industry. And the style of it works with the produced as most sunglass companies use logotypes. It communicates the style and the look of the sunglasses really well, and get across that is high end really well. It looks very professional and even though it’s a script font it still looks modern.

G

The ‘G’ is a very unusual modern shape, two semi circles or two leaf shapes. However even though The ‘G’ is a strange shape its still clear to see that it is a ‘G’ and still reads as a ‘G’. The typeface used is modern which works well with the company as they have just redesigned their logo and packaging to be more modern looking. The ‘G’ doesn’t work with the two remaining letters it seems to be left out. To make it work better each latter should be similar to each other, the colour choice for the logo is a great choice as its eye catching and bold.

H

H-Gun uses a very bold, strong and wide typeface almost a slab serif typeface. The ‘H-gun’ is very legible however the ‘H’ is too big and wide and most makes the letter join together and form a square. The slab serif choice of typeface does work well with the name ‘H-Gun’ as it looks western and also similar to the old wanted posters. The choice of colours goes well the green makes the white sand out and more visible and clearer for costumers to read.

I

The whole packaging and type is very modern, clear, minimal and bold, the modern theme is used through out the whole product, which keep it consistent. The ‘Live system’ uses a modern san serif, which makes it legible for the costumers to read it. The choice of typeface and layout works really well together and make the whole product look professional. The colours used compliment each other the black makes the white standout, which improves the legibility of the type and makes the product standout on the shelves.

J

Cajouser is flour for the company Nutrabait, it’s a company that has been around for long time and has recently updated their logo and packaging.
The ‘j’ in Cajouser is a modern bold san serif typeface that is legible even though the bottle is small in size. The colour scheme works well though out the packaging as it links with the colour of the logo at the bottom, the bottle is small however the bright bold colours still stand out on the shop shelves. The layout is clear and minimal and has a lot of space even though it only has little room on the bottle.

K

Korum is a tackle company in fishing. The ‘K’ stands out a lot from the rest of the name as its bold and shaped differently, this is effective as the company would be able to just use the ‘K’ on most of the products and costumers would probably still know it’s a Korum product. So it allows the company to make the packaging simpler and also when applying the logo to a small product, it’s a very versatile logo.  The rest of the name is in a san serif typeface but its stretched and widened but the logo is still legible and even clearer.

L

Korda is one of the biggest and most well known company in fishing and is always one step ahead from most other companies. As its one of the biggest it has hundreds of products which use all use the same colour scheme, layout and typeface on every product. The ‘L’ in long chuck and the whole name is modern, bold and very clear; the bold capital letters make it more legible and clear to see from the rest of the type on the packaging. The placing of the name is centred to make it easier for the costumer to locate it and choose the right one. The colour scheme is basic but stands out but it means it easy to apply this the other products they do. The layout, type choice and colour scheme is very varietal and is very effective.

M

Another Korda product a lot different from the previews one it’s more minimal and cleaner with less going on. Focusing on the ‘M’ and ‘MOUTH’ the type choice is modern and bold; it seems to be in italic or slanted slightly. Also the each letter is join together that could possible represents the product, which is fishing line or also the Sharpe and thick type could represent the strength of the filament. The colour scheme is Korda’s mean colour, which is green this makes it easier for costumers to see it and to also know straight away it’s a korda product.

N

Nutabait is a company that has been in the fishing industry for a long time. The ‘N’ and ‘NUTRABAIT’ is in a serif typeface that reflects the age of the company, but also a professional look that get across that they have done this business for a long time. The thin serif type stands out from the bold san serif that make the name clear and easier to locate the name of the company. Similar to the previewers Nutrabait product it uses the same colour scheme black and yellow, this makes it easier for costumers to locate the product in the shop. And when the products are all together in the shop the black and yellow will be very eye catching.

O

Goo is a product from Korda however it is made by a different company.
The ‘O’ is a unique as its san serif but the ‘O’ is more of a square than a circle and is connected to the G. The look of the ‘O’ is modern, smooth and bold, the colour scheme changes on each bottle depending on the colour of the Goo, which make it flow though out the packaging and logo. The design is very simple which means it can be printed small and would still be legible.

P

Focusing on the ‘P’ and ‘SPECIALS’. The logo is unique, as it looks hand rendered almost like graffiti or marker pen on paper. An artist called Gaz Fareham a fisherman and artist design the product; this is why it could be handmade to show his artistic side. Even though the letters are touching its still legible and clear to see what it says. The contrast between the two typefaces makes the hand render stand out more on the product. Also the thick, bold, and black letters on the white background also helps at making it legible and also helps making it more visible on the shelve and look different from other products in the same area.

R

Sub Surface is a new book publication with only two books out, the design of the book is modern and minimal very different from a lot of other fishing publications. Forcing on the ‘R’ and the name its bold, modern, clean, legible and minimal. The san serif font makes it look clean the broken up letters help make the tittle more unique and personal. The cover design is minimal the white and black combination makes it stand out more on the shop floor, which will grab the costumer attention even in a busy shop.

S

This is sicker on a side of a delivery box from a bait company. Its clear, legible and formative, the bold and formal san serif typeface choice is clear and extremely legible which make it stand out on a box. The black and white improves it make it more bold bright especially on the side of a brown box. It will grab your attention and make you notice it.

T

Atomic tackle is a fishing tackle company that specialises in terminal tackle, The ‘T’ in Atomic is bold and unique a great way of creating the letter ‘T’ and also reflecting the name of the company. The logo is strong and clear you can clearly see it and still read it as Atomic and not something else, the colours used are bright, bold and vibrant which help the product stand out on the shelves and boost sales. Also the type size and setting allows everything to say to together in a nice compact area.

U

Subline is another product from Korda, the product is fishing line and the main selling point is that is super heavy and sinks to the bottom of the lake bed. The ‘U’ is a great design and good use of negative space, the arrow get across the selling point and reflects the main element of the product. It’s a small design and change but has a big impacted to name and logo, the lines going across the type adds texture to the mental tin. The choice of using a metal tin makes Korda stand out from there competitors on the shelve.

V

Avid is terminal tackle company it’s a new company in the fishing industry. The typeface used is a san serif but has unique shapes and characteristics; each letter flows together and fit well together. The type choice gives it a modern look and feel; the modern look reflects that is a new company with new and improved equipment. The yellow and black compliment each other and stands out which grabs the costumers attention it also improves the legibility of the type.

W

Drennan is match-fishing company that has hundreds of products from hooks to clothing. There main products are their hooks, the packaging design and type choice has to work across the whole range of hook the sell. The type choice is bold, simple and legible this allows the company to use it on the whole range and it also works on the layout. The layout is minimal and clear, with a small space they have kept it simple to stop it from being busy and help with legibility and also consistency thought out the whole hook range.

X

Xline is a fish company that specialises in line, the ‘X’ seems to be raw and rough the strong thick black scratch marks stand out from the modern clear san serif typefaces on the packaging. Having two different typefaces makes the ‘X’ really pop and it’s the first thing you can see straight away, also the minimal front layout and colours also help to make ‘X’ the stand out more.

Y

Cygnet logo is modern and flowing, the unique shapes used to create the type look modern and also compact the letters almost create a rectangle. The type flow really nicely together and look joined together. They fit really well together and change the typeface gives it a personal feel and look. The curved edges make it look clean and silk, the type works with minimal icon next to the type.

Z

Another product from korda, forcing on ‘Z’ and ‘ZIGS’ the type choice is formal, bold and clear. Its hard not to miss the type on the product, the big bold dark type stands out really well on the green background it compliments and pushes it out. For a small size the ‘ZIG’ is really big and bold however this help the costumer to locate the product and also to let them not what it is. The green also helps the costumer as its Korda’s green so it makes it that little bit easier to identify it’s a Korda product.
