OUGD504 - Studio brief 01 development

Working out the layout was pretty simple as I’m only using 4 folds. I set both pages 40cm – 15cm with 4 columns to help me know how much space I have and where the fold would be. I labelled each page so I know what needs to go on what page and to help me to put the right things on each page so it corrected when its folded. I also made a quick front cover but its not how I want it to be, I feel the type would look a lot better centred with the slash going through the title like the one in my ideas stage.

I started to make pages 1 and 2 from my ideas these two page are going to have type going over both pages. I created the A to B idea as I thought I could make it really minimal and modern and would go with the rest of the leaflet and I like the saying going from A to B it work well with explain what the design process is. I decided to not do the mind map it might looked really busy and too much I want my leaflet to be minimal with a lot of white space.

I tried different ways of having the arrows and what colours to have. i felt having to arrow pointing at both letters didn't make senses and didn't work with the saying. Next i tried having more arrows but it was too busy and took up a lot of space and it could be more simple. so decided to use one arrow going across both pages and add T on one page and O on the other so when closed it would read 'TO', the design is really but it easy to understand what its showing and trying to say.

I went back to the front cover and change it to the idea I sketched, it came out really well and how I wanted it to look simple, clear and modern. The centred text looks a lot better than having it in the corner. Because of the size of the leaflet your going to see that straight away and the red slash just add a bit of colour to catch your eye and look modern and minimal, I add design and create at the top and bottom to add some more colour to the cover and to also use some of the space up as I felt just the type and slash was very minimal and needed something else. The front cover came out really well and works with pages 1 and 2 goes with the modern and simple theme I’m trying to create though out the leaflet.

For pages 3 to 6 I knew what I wanted to do for them pages. From my research and ideas I knew I wanted to do this layout as it would be east to follow and would work well on the fold I have used and that its landscape as well. The feedback from the crit my peer really liked the idea of the layout so I went straight into it. I stared off by place number on each page to work out the layout i wanted to have big number to make it clear to follow i worked out i could use 100pt which is good as want them to be really big, i then placed body text on the pages to move it around and find out the layout. for the body text i used size 10pt to make it clear to read for everyone. It came out really well and how I wanted it to look, then changed the number to be red as I wanted to have some colour on each page but not a lot a little change I made from my ideas was I place subtitles on each step just make it even more clearer.  I then add my text for each step I played around with putting an arrow on the page but I felt it didn’t need that and I asked my friend Dan what he thought and he agreed with to me to take it off the page to keep it look minimal and the white space works well it gives it room to breath.

The last thing I had to do was design the back cover, from my ideas I sketched out a design that type around the edges like my front cover it work well on the front so I continued it on the back. I placed the work around the sides but I felt it was too simple and need something else so I add arrows to represent the different direction you take when design. I also added A to B on it as well because it worked on pages 1 and 2.  However when I finished I felt it was too busy and that I didn’t need the arrow or A to B I felt to could be very minimal with just the type around the edges and when I compared  the two design I felt the just type was a lot for better looking than the ones with arrows.
