When looking for a book what i like is a book with a thicker cover to the inside pages, this could be a hard cover or just a thick stock but to me i feel the cover has the have a different texture to the inside pages.
from looking in to stock weights, for the instead pages 120 to 200g/m2 and for the cover 200 - 300g/m2 on a paper stock but could be thicker if its going to be a hard cover.
Also looking at stocks the paper i prefer is smooth non textured paper this gives it a cleaner look and feel, if i was going to use a textured paper it would be on the cover and a thick stock. A publication i have called Crepe City uses a gloss textured cover which does give a nice finish and look. Looking in the village book shop it has a wide range of different types of publication and finishes which has help me find what i'm look at trying to create. A book i found with an exposed spine and just used craft board made it look minimal but also really creative and stood out from the rest.
From my cover its going to be a full cover with a spine on smooth matt with a weight of 200-300g/m2 or craft board with an exposed spine.
