i started off with this design for the cocktail words the idea i just came up with in my head, the first design came out well but it wasn't the lay out i wanted. i then add some more pages to my booklet becoming the total of 24 pages i could then use the lay out i wanted.
the image below is how i wanted it to be to have a page with name of the part your on in the booklet and to have the the top 20 cocktails going down on the other page.
you turn over the page and come on to the words, i change it i made the text more clear and it standouts more, but i still felt it could be better.
Then i came up with idea of creating cocktail glasses and placing the type in it, the outcome was really good it became more of an image and more interesting than just words on a page.
from my research i really wanted to do something with the page numbers, this magazine i found when doing my research i really like the bold numbers for the pages it also most looks like it goes with the type and artwork on the page. this is also the magazine that made me want to do the black and white pages, both pages standout but also they don't take away from each other.
this magazine from my research helped me decide what font i wanted to use as soon as i saw this font i had to use it the fonts called 'Monaco'. Its clear font bold but also looks modern. i need a font to be clear to read but also modern to go with look of this booklet.
I started off with this first idea i wanted the zero as i really like the line going across it. the first idea was really simple so decided to change it, i had the idea of using pound signs and make in to look like the price of something e.g £22.00 i did this because it works with my research on cocktail menu. All cocktail menus have the price on it.
I played a lot around with the layout of the top 20 cocktails as you can see. but once i add the pages to make a total of 24 it made it really simple and easy, the top 20 go thought the booklet right to the end.
for the opinions i wanted to make coloured glasses to represent percentage of each opinion. the idea came from looking at the sung menu it has a similar thing. The first lot of glasses didn't come out to well they didn't really look like glass so i redesigned them to look more like pint glasses.
A little detail i added similar to the idea for the page number being the price of something, i add ML's to the percentage i got the idea from looking at the ingredients for cocktails almost everything is measured in Milliliters.
The front cover i wanted it to be really simple but also to use the black and white element.
I used the same typeface i used in the booklet and also i decide to use the glass idea i used in booklet because it looks simple and i also thought the front and back cover needed and image.

When deciding what colour to make the drink on the front cover i look at cocktails but also fruit because they fresh colourful and bright similar to a cocktail. the most colours that kept on come up was greens, yellow and oranges so i decide to use a colour thats in between yellow and orange.
