looking at one of my of fishing books on knot a great way of doing the index is in alphabetical order as most anglers will know the name of knot so they can look at index and find the knot quick and easily.

OUDG404- What is a book? changes and development

I have made small changes to my book throughout making it. I have removed lines changed spellings also changed the colour.

I removed the line under the numbers to make it simpler and more clearer the line didn’t need to be there.

I printed out a copy of the work and checked the layout and spelling the layout was fine a worked however I did make some changes to some spelling mistakes and also rewording some sentence. Also change the knot that’s on cover in my book to full white instead of having a low opacity on it to make it more bold and go with the front cover.

Also I changed the colour when I printed it out I fell it was dark and didn’t make the artwork or type stand out so I went of a brighter blue that looked a lot better.

I found this book on trend list and i really like the simple look and knot made from a rope, as soon as i saw this i knew this is how i wanted my cover to look. So i designed a different knot on illustrator and it came out really well. i wanted the knot on the front and back cover with hardly no type only my name and the book name and i will put the blurb in last page of the book to keep it looking simple.

from looking at books in shops and online and also looking at posters i found that using as less colours as i could would make the book look clear but also make it look modern and stand out from other books. from some book layouts i found i really liked the mix of white and blue papers and having black and white text it meant having black type on white paper it would be clear and easy read also with the blue and having white type on it. the blue is really bold and eye catching perfect at standing out from other books.

My ideas are very simple and I didn’t do many as I find it easier when creating and trying different layouts and when working with type to go on the computer and play around and see what happens.

But in my ideas I want the layout to simple and clear the layout need to be able to be applied to each page to make the book follow which will make it easier to understand.

To do this I tried numbering each step to make it easy to follow and also using white space to stop it from looking to over complicated and hard to understand. To make each step to have white space going to use two pages to explain each knot.

Typeface will be a modern, bold and clear a typeface like Gills sans or Helvetica. From research I found that using a maximum of 3 colours will make the book the look simple and less busy as this is the look I am going of, simple modern, bold, clear and minimal.

Out of the different typefaces i tried i think i am going to use helvetica for the body text, headings and title as its clear in big text and small text. this book need to be clear as its an instruction book so people need to be able to read it. 

I do like century gothic however the 's' in century gothic doesn't look right and i am going to be using the letter 's' a lot on the step-by-step part.

Step by step book on how to make different fishing knot, focusing on carp fishing. Aim at beginners and also people how fish already.

cover and the step-by-step knots artwork will be created on computer to it clear and easy to under stand.

Book binding method will be saddle stich and I will use mono line or braided line to hold it together.

A5 size portrait pocket size.

The book will be modern the typeface will be san serif to make the step-by-step parts more clear.

Colours in the book and cover will be neutral colours not too bright and bold like some book i found in research, 3 colours maximum.

Paper stock will be a thick gloss or mat cover with thin inside pages.  

Printing method will be digital.

Once I was happy with my A4 poster I then add the new changes to my book cover I made the type go across the page and add more blue to make it more exciting, that was the main thing I wanted to change in my redesign of the book cover is to make it more active and exciting which would hopefully make people want to read the book and make it stand out from the books, the one thing I kept from the original book cover is the use of different shads of blue to make part that are important to stand out and to break it up from the other words.

I am happy how it has came out its simple, clear and more exciting which is what I wanted to achieve with this book cover design.
