OUGD405 - studio brief 01 brief & research

For this studio brief 01 we are creating the backing paper for a photo frame we must create 3 using these sizes 6x4 inches - 7x5 inches - 8x6 inches, all typography and vector based images must be produced in Adobe Illustrator. Any images must be manipulated in Adobe Photoshop. The final composition must be produced in Adobe Photoshop.

When thinking what to research the first thing i thought of was geometric shapes in a pattern, shapes like triangles, circles and squares. from my research  i like the idea of using bright bold colours for the pattern but i also like it in black and white i will experiment with this in my first ideas and maybe in development.

I continued to look at patterns but in other places it has been used like nature birds feathers and leafs.  And also looked in to tattoos geometric tattoos always look impressive and when looking at this i found out i could keep it really simple but still look impressive and also create an image like a feather or animals in geometric shapes. I think they look very interesting and i would think in a shop this could catch and grab the customers attention.

Continuing to look at tattoo designs and geometric designs I have started to look at moths its a popular tattoo design and other tattoo designs people get and also moths are geometric and moths and butterfly’s also have patterns. I think they are interesting and unique and has everything I’m look at in one pattern, geometric, shapes and a tattoo people get.   

I have also looked in to arrow designs and tattoos, i think some of the arrow designs are really good and would look good as backing paper of the photo frame i like the white shapes the arrow create around them they are very simple and clean design.

OUDG403-Design skills

In this project ‘design skills’ I have learn a lot of new skills and things Throughout each brief, that I will apply to the other projects to come.

In studio 01 brief 1 I learnt how to create a type I being to understand the anatomy type, studio brief 02 I leant about the grid system and how to can apply a grid to anything and also developed my skill in illustrator in the workshops. In studio brief 03 and 04 I became more aware of layouts and how to present work clearly and look professional and research can really help you create your final idea.

Each brief was really different and changing but also fun the brief I’m most pleased with is studio brief 04 this is because its something I am interested so I felt I could do a lot of work in all areas from the research, ideas and development, my final 3 poster came out really well and how I wanted them to look and I think other people like them to from the feedback in my crit. The Crit sessions we had were really helpfully it helped me to improve and develop my work getting Crits from peers make it easier to create and develop designs.

I pleased with all my briefs and my final outcomes. If I had to do something different it would spend more time on studio brief 02 do more research and maybe create a more detail typeface. Also something that I will apply to all the project to come keep up to date with my blog posts and create the design sheet as I go through each brief so I’m more relaxed during the week before deadline day. My attendance for this project was good I was in for the all lessons and used some of the studio development days. But I mostly got all my work done at home when it was a studio development day as I can concentrate better when I’m on my own.

Overall I have enjoyed this project and have learnt lots throughout.

OUDG403- Final poster Crit and final outcome evaluation

For my final outcome my research and my ideas and development really helped me create my final three posters.

The research helped to create the images and to come up with the idea of using a quote, my ideas and development helped me to create a layout and image and what colours to use.

My development was the part that changed and created my final, developing my ideas on Illustrator aloud me to try different layouts, colours and type easily and clearly. I will use Illustrator in over projects to develop them from now on it a really effective why to see what work and what doesn’t.

In my research the main part that help me create my final three was looking at a website called www.buynothingday.co.uk helped me come up with the ideas to use a quote and also money symbols in my words, the second bit of research that helped me was looking at clothing brand posters and also shop signs. These gave me the idea of keeping everything simple and using a simple images to get the message across easily and clearly. The final bit of research that helped was looking at high street clothing brands, as that was what my research was mainly about in studio brief 03 shop tactics in clothing brands.   

My final three poster I very pleased with they came out how I wanted them to be clear and simple I feel it got the message across in all three poster, the message is watch out for the shops tactics and also limit excessive shopping. All three works as a set, all have the same message, image, layout and typeface. I feel that I have achieved what was needed for this brief.


Final Crit 

I got some good feedback from my peers about all three posters.
