Different folds are best for different publication. a hotdog fold would be a good fold for a lot of information unlike a gate fold. but a gate fold would be good for booklet with less information on it like for an event. A hotdog fold could be made from different sizes of paper however i wouldn't go below A4 because it would really small and also be hard of the booklet to close fully.
