OUGD504 - studio brief 03 final evaluation

Final evaluation

OUGD504 - Design Production
Studio brief 03 – Type in context

Having this project, as an extended project was a really good thing as it allowed you to but more into it and spend more time designing and producing something that you can be proud of creating. Creating everything from the photos and the design of the publication and binding is great feeling as its all create from scratch by yourself.

This brief was very challenging with a lot of work and things to think about when making a publication however it felt good putting a lot work into it and to make a physical publication, that was the best part having a publication you made yourself. It was a really enjoyable project with a lot of thinking and planning, and it was project that you can learn so much from layouts, grids, stock, and print finishes and a lot more.

From the last projects taking photos of and going to shops really help inspiring ideas and this brief it really did help, looking at publications in Village really generated ideas and inspired the final out come.

In this brief the crits helped massively, the crit helped finalise the idea and develop the publication. The crit created new ideas as well and made and help make a big decision on what publication to create. Also the workshops in the mac suite and biding workshop helped a lot to create a very high quality final outcome. And the talks was a great way at seeing how things are done in the real world on mass production, GH Smith talk was a really interesting talk and amazing to see how much going into paper making.

The final outcome was changeling to make and create but was the best final outcome so far this year, everything came together really well the publication came out professional but also unique and creative. The minimal, exciting layout came out great and was inspired from the research, which really help though out the project. This project was the only project had so many ideas and different decisions for it.

If I would do something different in this brief, I would experiment more with a lot more different layouts and grids and also do more test printing with different stocks to choose the perfect stock for the job. Also take more interesting photos of type be more creative with it as it would probably improve the look of the layout and final design.

Overall this brief was hard and challenging but this was a good thing as it was a great project to learnt a lot more new skill and techniques when creating a publication and all the elements that go into designing one. But not just skills and techniques for making publication skills that can be applied to other project in the future and also when working for a studio in the real world. It was a really interesting project that was good though out from start to finish.
