The grid System

Gird systems have been used 100s of years ago from Egyptian times to Rudimentary versions of grid systems in the medieval times to now where it is used but graphic designers and web designers.

During the early twentieth century even before the Bauhaus (the birthplace of the modern grid), grids were found on everyday printed things, like invoices, ledges and other materials. The grid system was used for bringing order to layouts with information on them to make them clear to read and easier to see.

Swiss designer Josef Muller-Brockmann was a key part in the creation of the grid author of Gird Systems in Graphic Design (1961) warned: “the grid system is an aid, not a guarantee. It permits a number of possible uses and each designer can look for a solution appropriate to his personal style. But one must learn how to use the grid; it is an art that requires practice.”
(Information from 100 ideas that changed graphic design) To avoid using the grid as a template.  active design decisions must be made a grid is an instrument in the design process, it should be used with flexibility when necessary.
